Video: '72 Blazer with a Supercharged 427

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Similarly, one man's unfinished classic truck project is the perfect starting point for another man's restomod build. Lance Coury was on the lookout for a 1969-72 Chevy Blazer when he heard about a stripped-down '72 that had been sitting incomplete at Arizona-based hot rod builder Delmo Speed. After a call to the Blazer's owner, Coury bought it and Delmo got to work rebuilding it into a timeless muscle truck.

When Coury purchased the Blazer, it was sitting on all-terrain tires with a lift kit, but he wanted to take it in a completely different direction. He told AutotopiaLA that he wanted a truck that had sharp handling and potent acceleration, but also maintained the classic look of a first-gen Blazer, from the paint and trim to the interior upholstery.

After commissioning a series of renderings from the talented E. Black Design Co., Coury and Delmo's owner Del Ushenko agreed on a setup. The truck rides on a Choppin Block custom chassis with double-adjustable coilovers and Baer disc brakes at all four corners. The wheels are 20-inch Rotiforms that were previously only available for car applications, but were custom-drilled for the Blazer's lug pattern.

The body is almost entirely stock, with all the original lighting and trim, but has been tubbed and notched to accommodate the wider rear wheels and a Currie 9-inch rear end.

When Coury first got the car, it had an LS3 V8 that would've provided plenty of power for most drivers... but Coury isn't an average driver. With a background in motocross competition, he loves speed and adrenaline, so he wanted something more potent.

This led him to buy a Dart 427ci V8 and a massive Whipple supercharger that's capable of well over 1,000 horsepower at the crank. Combined with a built 4L80e automatic transmission, it puts down 750 horsepower at the rear wheels — more than enough to smoke the sticky 345/30R20 Michelins in an instant.

For the interior, Coury wanted something that was comfortable and practical but still had that early '70s Chevy vibe. Delmo worked with upholstery wizard Fat Lucky to reupholster a set of original-style front bucket seats with blue leather and blue striped cloth. For the rear seats, an original-style bench seat was narrowed and custom-mounted to fit on top of the elevated rear axle notch and in between the seat tubs.

Other interior touches include a custom center console with two cupholders, Dakota Digital gauges, Vintage Air A/C, and a tilt column with a smaller-diameter original-style steering wheel.

This Blazer really feels cohesive and classic, and its 750hp supercharged V8 gives it enough get-up-and-go for any adrenaline junkie. Check out the full video below from AutotopiaLA:
