Whether you use the term gearhead, petrolhead, greasemonkey, or car guy/gal, the love of automobiles is a universal principle. For nearly 50 years, we've shipped restoration parts to classic car enthusiasts all over the world, and we're always happy to see those enthusiasts complete their dream projects. We recently saw a video from YouTube channel Petrolicious that perfectly encapsulates the restoration journey of a Frenchman named Jacques who decided to restore a '68 Mustang Fastback in his home city of Strasbourg, France.
Jacques' 1968 Mustang GT Fastback
Restoring a classic American car in the U.S. can be a challenge, but restoring one on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean is even harder. But where there's a will, there's a way. Jacques Jenn was determined to have a vintage Mustang like the one he watched Steve McQueen drive in Bullitt. "I battled with the pros and cons, and decided to take the project," he explained with a smile.
Through a contact in the United States, Jacques found this '68 Mustang GT Fastback in Chicago. It was a numbers-matching car with its original V8 engine, but needed a full restoration to replace the weathered interior and faded, peeling paint. After shipping the car to France, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work.
Jacques performed the restoration at home, getting up early to wrench on the car for a few hours before leaving for work. However, it wasn't a solitary job — he says his wife was a continuous source of encouragement, and his son joined him in the garage every Saturday to work on the Mustang. He recalled, "I've been lucky that this project has truly been a family affair."
"To watch a child's eyes as he builds a car alongside his father, it's really extraordinary," continued Jacques. As cool as this '68 Mustang is on its own, those memories make it truly priceless.
