The Fox Body Mustang is a deeply nostalgic vehicle for those of us who grew up in the 1980s and '90s. These cars were easy to find at affordable prices, fun to drive, and served as a gateway into the world of high-performance modifications. More than 40 years later, it's no surprise that some Fox Body enthusiasts are willing to spend big bucks to build their ultimate dream Mustang... but would you be willing to pay $280,000 for one? Velocity Restorations, a custom classic car and truck builder in Florida, is offering a new series of turn-key Fox Body Mustang restomod builds for more than a quarter-million dollars each.
Velocity Restorations isn't just another one-off custom vehicle builder — it operates more like an OEM automaker, complete with a list of available models and an assembly line process for each order. Customers select the model they want, choose a variety of options from drop-down menus, and then wait a few months for the vehicle to be completed using a donor car Velocity has acquired.
We previously wrote about Velocity's re-engineered classic Ford F-Series trucks. The company also offers resto-modded Chevy C-10s, K5 Blazers, International Scouts, Ford Broncos, and more.
Each Velocity Restorations Fox Body starts with a Roadster Shop SPEC chassis which offers improved rigidity, coilover suspension, a four-link rear with Ford 9-inch differential, and a lowered stance. The chassis is also equipped with drilled and slotted Baer big brakes and 18-inch CCW SA50 three-piece billet wheels with wide Pirelli tires.
The exterior retains a stock appearance with tighter body panel gaps, a subtle cowl-induction hood, and your choice of BASF Glasurit paint color.
Each Velocity Fox Body comes with a Gen 4X 5.0L Coyote 460hp crate engine and either a 10-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. An optional Whipple supercharger is also available for those looking for even more power.
Velocity says the part of this Mustang it's most proud of is the interior. It's easy to see why. It maintains the classic '80s-inspired appearance and original lines, but adds refinement and modern conveniences. Its Recaro seats are upholstered in a retro fabric that matches the door panel inserts, and they're equipped with seat heaters too.
The center console has a Blaupunkt retro-styled head unit, Vintage Air A/C controls, power window switches, and integrated USB-C ports for charging. The steering wheel looks original, but it's actually a shrunk-down billet piece with leather and Alcantara finish.
Even the gauge cluster was made exclusively for Velocity Restorations by Dakota Digital. Supercharged models also get boost pressure gauges on the A-pillar. The original-style dash pad is wrapped in Alcantara for an upscale feel.
So, the question remains: is this Fox Body Mustang worth more than a quarter-million dollars? That's for potential buyers to decide. However, it's clear that a lot of thought and attention to detail goes into each of these builds.
