The 1969 Camaro is one of those cars that has seemingly been restored and resto-modded in every imaginable way. As a result of its widespread popularity, the '69 Camaro seems to appear at every classic car show, whether it's a carbureted original-style restoration or a pro-touring build with a modern fuel-injected V8. But for the Camaro owner who wants something truly unique, legendary custom shop Ringbrothers can build a car from the ground up with one-of-a-kind parts. This 1,000hp carbon-fiber-bodied Camaro, named "Strode," is a perfect example of what they do best.
On a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage, Leno met with Ringbrothers co-founder Jim Ring to take a closer look at this Camaro, which debuted at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. At first glance, it's obvious that this car is a 1969 Camaro but also that it has been heavily reworked.
After being stripped off the frame, the body was reconstructed in hand-laid carbon fiber based on 3D models built in CAD software. Jim Ring says the grand total weight of the entire body is just 150 pounds, several hundred pounds lighter than the original sheetmetal body panels.
Many other components were custom-made, including the center-exit exhaust and the LED tail lights, which were machined to mimic the three-section look of the original 1969 Camaro tail lights.
The car rides on dark gray HRE wheels which frame massive Baer brakes with bright orange calipers. That orange is also carried over to the hood graphics and the interior leather upholstery.
Dakota Digital gauges, a custom carbon fiber steering wheel, and a classic cue-ball shifter for the manual transmission complete this car's wild interior. There are also custom badges that say "Strode," a reference to Laurie Strode, Michael Myers' sister from the Halloween movie franchise.
Of course, no Ringbrothers build would be complete without a potent engine under the hood. This one features a Wegner Motorsports 6.2L LS3 with a Whipple supercharger that's capable of more than 1,000 horsepower. It's paired with a Tremec transmission built by Bowler Transmissions.
