Captain Wylie Clough joined the army 18 years ago. Since then, he served two tours in Afghanistan as an Operations Officer, became happily married and is raising a beautiful 3-year-old daughter. If that's not enough, somehow Wylie finds time to spend with his mistress. Well, according to his lovely bride, his mistress is a 1964 Chevy C10 Truck.
This is no ordinary truck. This C10 is a family heirloom, purchased by his father when Wylie was just 5 years old. It carried young Wylie and his dog out to the lake to go fishing. His dad taught him to drive in it. At the age of 16, the keys were handed down and it became Wylie's first truck.
After joining the military straight out of high school, the truck sat idle behind his mother's Runnels County, Texas home, only getting attention when Wylie was on leave. Each time he'd come home he'd get it running again, but as the years ticked by, it proved to be too much of a chore, leaving the '64 Chevy to pass the time as a backyard relic.
Five years went by before Wylie's friend suggested putting some effort in sprucing up the old truck and making it a runner. Taking his advice, Wylie decided to do just that. However, more than just an engine sparked to life. The 64 C10 snowballed into a full-blown custom restoration project as family and friends all played a part in one form or another, completing the build over a period of four years.
Any chance he will launch another project like this? "Yes, I'd love to restore a 57 Chevy Bel Air, a 58 or 59 pickup or a 66 or 67 GTO," replied Wylie.
