The name "Demon" has received substantial interest the last few years as a result of the 2018 SRT Demon, a heavily-modified Dodge Challenger that can run the quarter mile in an astonishing 9.6 seconds. But the origin of this MOPAR car name can be traced back to 1971, when it was released as a sporty fastback version of the Dodge Dart.
This 1972 Dodge Demon belongs to Mitchell Valentin, of Huntington Beach, California. Mitchell tells us that he's the fourth owner of the car, and bought it in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Mitchell's Demon retains its numbers-matching engine and transmission, a 340ci V8 and 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission. The car's exterior is Hemi Orange with black side stripes, as well as black graphics on the hood and the tail lamp panel.
Mitchell tells us the car has been repainted once, and that he is working to restore its interior and exterior. He recently stopped by the Classic Industries Retail Showroom to pick up reproduction trunk weatherstrip, as well as some parts for the glove box.
One particularly interesting feature of this 1972 Dodge Demon is its sliding sunroof, a factory option which was installed by American Sunroof Company (ASC). This large ragtop provides an open-air experience that's perfect for warm California days.
Mitchell drives his '72 Demon frequently to work, around town, and to the local Donut Derelicts car show on weekends. He always has a great time driving it, especially when the weather is nice and he can slide open the sunroof.
