1970 Mustang Mach 1 - The Speed of Sound

Aircraft and aeronautics have been a frequent source of inspiration for cars, whether it was aesthetic elements such as cones and fins, functional aerodynamics to increase top speed and cornering capabilities, or simply their names. Most automotive historians agree that the Ford Mustang was named after the famous P-51 Mustang fighter plane, so it's no surprise that Ford continued the theme with the performance-oriented Mach 1 option package. Representing the velocity of an object equal to the speed of sound, the term Mach 1 is synonymous with going fast.

The 1970 Mustang Mach 1 seen here belongs to Jennifer McGrath, of Westminster, CA. It has been fully restored inside and out, and features a 351 Cleveland V8 paired with a FMX 3-speed automatic transmission.

The body panels, including the iconic Shaker hood, have been repainted in a fresh coat of white paint before contrasting black graphics were applied to the hood and trunk lid. Jennifer's Mach 1 also features new lighting, trim, glass, and many other parts from the Classic Industries Mustang catalog.

The interior has also been restored to original condition, with black vinyl upholstery, black carpet, and Deluxe Woodgrain trim on the gauge cluster, steering wheel, door panels, and center console.

Some of you may recognize this Mach 1 from its appearance in our recent Classic Industries TV commercials, where it's seen driving alongside several other restored classic cars. We're glad we could feature it in those commercials, and also share a closer look at it here on our blog.
